Manties and Panties

Pee Pee on the Potty
.
.
Seriously why are diapers so easy?  You are out and about and the dreaded words "I have to pee" trickle down to the driver seat of your car...  You pretend to not notice the ever so growing voice, demanding a bathroom, stat.  But diapers... oh sweet diapers...  you change it once you get home.
.
.
If you have more than one kiddo you have noticed that stuff "trickles down".... Meaning...  When one has to pee all has to pee... sometimes, they have me so convinced that I even have to pee...  (insert eyeroll)  When one is thirsty.. suddenly everyone has this major dehydration overcome their bodies and it makes you truly wonder when they drank last.  This is my life.  My beautiful, chaotic life.
.
.
I have got 2 boys out of diapers and into manties  (Yes we call boys undies Manties... Cute right?!?!)  One girl in panties and 1 girl currently transitioning to full time pantie life.  (Im NOT excited about it, more to come)
.
.
My first was a breeze...  I had no idea what I was doing so I went with it.  All I had to go off of were my 7 year daycare toddler room days, where I worked in High school and through College so I was no stranger to the potty chair and 2 year olds.  I have a few pro tip and tricks to get you outta those awesome diapers and into the world of "MOMMY I HAVEEEE TO PEEEE" phase of life.
.
.
Please note that all kiddos are different.  This is just what has and is working for us as parents of 4.
.
.
Pro tips:  THE CHILD NEEDS TO BE READY, NOT MOM AND DAD.  Sure, those manties and panties are wayyyy cheaper than diapers but... listen close to this...  Kids don't want to do what they are told...  They will most likely "boycott" and it will make it much worse in the long run.
.
Example:  You tell your kiddo its time to go to bed... temper tantrums will be thrown, all the excuses in the book will be given to keep their little eyes open a little longer...  You tell your kids to eat their broccoli and green beans and suddenly you have entered this new territory of a haunted house with the screams coming from their tiny mouth.
.
Friends, let's not start this off that way.  Now your probably saying... okay fair enough... but...how do I know when they are ready to start?  Well, you look for their clues.  Lets repeat this...  THEIR CLUES!
Clues I saw that told me my kiddos were ready for this journey were as follows in no particular order.  Not every kid did all of them but they were done at some point.
*Holding their private after they peed, through their pants of course.
*Taking off their diaper after they peed, and unfortunately, sometimes after they pooped (Ugh)
*Saying Poop and pee after they had gone in their diaper.  (This is big because its recognizing that they are doing it)

Pro tip:  Buy some potty training books!  Read with them both on and off the potty.  This was especially helpful with my 1st when only mom and dad went potty, the books were more helpful.  We read them with all of them but I really noticed it helped with #1.

The first kiddo we put out a potty in the living room and let him bare butt.  He was 17 months.  Nothing was forced, but it was there for him.  He would sit on it and laugh but never "went" we did this for about a month.
We then notice him finally start to go to the potty when he needed to go so we eased it into the actual bathroom.  This took a week or so but viola!  He got it.  He was SOOO easy.  But... the fact that we had it readily available to him in the room his spent most of his time in made a huge difference!

We started out with the "toy potty" linked below.  It didn't last long because he thought it was a toy and so we had to change it out.  But... it is a great potty and i'll link the one we switched too.  It's the "boring potty" linked below.  Im sure some kiddos can use the "toy potty" and not have an issue but... we weren't that fam.

I might also add here...  we have NEVER USED PULL-UPS!  My personal opinion, pull-ups confuse kiddos...  They feel like a diaper so they really don't notice a difference.  When they have manties or panties on... they know when they wet themselves and they don't like it.  They really need to understand the difference here and honestly, I think it played a huge role in my overall success of training.  Some will disagree with me and I get it.  Pull-ups are SO expensive too so, for us, this worked and I am so glad we never used them and had success without.

With my 2nd (girl) We started the same way as Carter.  She was a little easier because she knew bubby went to the potty and she wanted to be just like him.  The potty was kept in the living room, like Carter.  The only difference is Ava was put right into panties.  We didn't leave her bare butt to run around.  If she had an accident, and she did... lots and lots of accidents.  But...  about a week in she realized that she didn't like the feel of her panties being wet and started pulling them down!  SCORE!  Like Carter, we kept pulling the potty little-by-little out of the living room and into the Bathroom.  It only took her about 2 weeks to be fully trained.
.
.
Our 3rd...  He was a little harder than Ava and Carter.  He is my head strong, crazy, stubborn boy.  He gives me a run for my money without a doubt but man, oh man, do I love him.  So, we did everything the same as Ava..... Potty in living room, manties instead of bare butt and it took him a few weeks for us to be able to start pulling it further and further from the living room to the bathroom.
.
He would NOT poop on the potty.  Like he peed all day long but when he had to poop he held it in, until the night when he got a diaper on or fussed until he got his way.  I finally had enough of it... we are talking months and months of this.  So, I got creative.  Here are my tips if you have a kiddo with the same struggle:
If he had to poop and wanted a diaper on... I put him in one but... sat him on the potty with the diaper on.  The idea, he was still pooping in the diaper he was demanding but.. humoring me by doing it on the potty.  He refused the first couple of times but... I added a sucker in there for bribery and after about a week, maybe 2 we got to the point where......  We put the diaper on when he demanded it but...... when he got to the potty we took it off...  (Yeah I know... about 5 seconds total....but...... thats what HE needed)
Presto!  Potty trained #3.....
.
So...  #4....  My last bambino...  Im not ready for her to be potty trained.  I love her in diapers... Knowing that I wont have a kiddo in diapers anymore tears at my heart strings... A LOT!!  I want to have a baby in diapers forever!  Now, I know thats not possible but.. I have held her back.  She wants to go to the potty like everyone else in the house and wear cute panties but... Im just not there.   She was 3 in August and all the other kids have been well potty trained by now, even stubborn Brentlee (#3).
.
.
I promised myself (and my hubs) that I will start in January!  It wont take her long, she gets mad she is still in diapers to be honest.  I just love her little...  Time is just a cruel thing.
.
My hubs is the opposite, he cant wait until she is out of diapers and is so mad I wont jump on the pantie train with her... just yet.  (EYEROLL)

.
So, this is my potty training experience in a nutshell....  It seems so simple typed out, lol...  In the moment... it wasn't!!  I have linked some of my potty training must haves and what we used.   I'll also add them in my Amazon Faves link!!  Hopefully this will be of help to those of you struggling or entering the world of manties and panties!
God Speed!   (wink, wink)

Oh and...
When transitioning off of the "floor potty", so to speak, we did the soft toilet seat for the toilet.  The boys had one and the girls had one.  Linking them below:

You will need a stool!!!  For washing hands, getting to the soft potty seat and feeling like a big kid.  I have stools in nearly every room in my house so I linked our faves below:
Random... but... has a point.....

Girls bathrooms freak me out... having a chronic health condition, that has to do with my vaginal health I take it VERY seriously.  Maybe TMI... BUT....  I NEVER EVER touch a public toilet seat... I squat and use my foot to flush, if need be.  When I enter the bathroom, I grab a paper towel so I can lock the door without touching it bare handed.  I will do a blog about my illness but... what I have, you can get from a public restroom.  Mine was not contracted from one but... it is VERY easily done if not careful.  So... My point in all of that... I cant expect my girls to squat and not touch anything...  Sooooo I buy these..  I will NEVER,EVER, EVER go without them.  For me, and my health issues I will never not have one on hand for my girls.  I never want them to suffer like I have, from something as simple as covering a toilet seat.
.
GET THESE!!!!!!!!!  Seriously, get them!  I'll blog about why soon....
